the greatest band in the UK return to reading with more wonky time signatures than YES,
more mindblowing drum chops than KEITH MOON, more irony in their little pinkies than an army of ALANIS MORRISETTES
and more pop smarts than JEFFERSON STARSHIP. prepare to lose your socks
ex-bass man with the sadly departed local post-rock badboys, THE BIG SLEEP,
now strides out into the lonely world of guitar-based ambient/drone/noise.
aimed straight at the hearts of all you KRANKY lovers.
a brand new project featuring two local characters who you might recognise from previous adventures.
namely NICOLE PERKINS and MATTHEW GREENER and a load of strings...
taking time off from local monsters of all things progressive AUTO DE FE,
daniel offers us a more simplistic view on life with his lush modern folk music.
(brighton // japan)
featuring the legendary DJ SCOTCH EGG, and
likely to be unlike anything that you have ever seen before.
EBBS AND FLOWS
electronic drone and shoegaze pop in the form of a one man space arkestra.
FRANCOIS & THE ATLAS MOUNTAINS (solo)
(bristol // france)
solo set from francois playing reinterpretations of songs from last years
'plaine inondable' album that was released on the ever reliable FENCE RECORDS.
(cambridge & london)
one of the highlights of last year's south by south street mini festival,
back with their own brand of experimental electronics.
this is stunning porch music, from the one man garage blues explosion that is HANK HAINT.
he also plays(ed) drums in doubledotdash!? favourites HIRED MUSCLE and RAMPANT RABBIT.
(henley-on-thames & high wycombe)
soothing and ethereal sounds from closer to home than you might first imagine.
HOUSE OF JOHN PLAYER
dean blew us away with his collection of loopy pop-tastic jams when
he played for us recently, so we asked him back as soon as humanly possible.
has to be seen to be believed madcap adventures in sound which somehow
combines a steel drum, ping-pong balls, tapeloops, trumpet, stilts and much much more.
I'M BEING GOOD
absolute legends of uk noise rock scene. a very welcome return to reading.
jamboree is music from reading.
a deceptively female ex-readingite who will share her lovely atmospheric songs with us.
jaunty one man loop based laptop pop. or something.
"this is pretty sweet. it's on ruby red vinyl. it has a plain sleeve. it makes me want to smoke a bowl too.
this is the new project from members of WOLVES! OF GREECE, LORDS and LITTLE GIRL WITH CHERRIES. i thought it was gonna be
a blues/grunge work out, but its not of that ilk. it's a lo-fi bong fest that sounds really dense, with twin gibsons set to stun,
and pounding thick sounding drums. i like the pace of this song. it's a bit like listening to music in a bath full of treacle.
i'm looking forward to hearing more from these characters, and i think you should too..." - NORMAN RECORDS
LA MORT SUBITE
reading's favourite franco-balkano-gypsy-folk-jazz-dance-fun band.
never a dull moment with these champs!
you might recognise young lindsay from previous south street faves LOVE.STOP.REPEAT.
if that's the case then you will be fully aware of her astonishing voice.
you may know mark as the face in popular indie-pop-rock-combo MARK KNIGHT & THE WITCHES.
from time to time he likes to cut loose and try something a little different.
this is one of those times.
"max tundra's warm, emotive, uplifting songs will capture your spirit, pour it over ice,
and serve it back to you at the best disco in town
(where you won't get turned away for liking both destiny's child and frank zappa).
incidentally, there's no dress code either."
(the west country)
this guys doesnt give a hoot about the rules. he's gonna play his songs,
and you WILL blimmin well enjoy it. has to be seen.
ONE MAN WAREHOUSE
the voice (and so much more) of local faves HUNTING THE SHY
bears his soul for your listening pleasure.
one lady, a piano, and her beautiful beautiful songs.
sadly not MORK. but do not worry, it's reading's
number one math rock duo. exciting.
SILENT PAPER RADIOS
subtle english folk music with chamberlike arrangements and catchy choruses.
(london & fife)
surprisingly banging disco slammers from popular folkies
ADEM and the PICTISH TRAIL. their album out on MOSHI MOSHI soon!
a perverted loner, SILVERY MAGNUS mostly plays electronic machines and manipulated feedback.
has a disgraceful fetish for sound modifying pedals. also enjoys magnets & metal objects.
smears his sound onto computers & minidiscs & CDRs.
a rock band in the vein of PAVEMENT or ARCHERS OF LOAF and featuring members of
IDRCHITECTURE, THE BIRDS OF PARADISE, and probably loads of other bands.
ex OM CORPORATION man strikes out on his own.
an experimental musician using a mixture of throat singing, and virtuosic sound experimentation
with various instruments and objects. album out on geoff barrow's INVADA imprint.
a mostly instrumental folk duo featuring a plethora of interesting instruments
such as banjo, kora, ukelele, piano, harmonium, autoharp and clarinet.
TILEHURST CHILDRENS ARKESTRA
terminally unhip yet seriously cool smokin' 70s cop lounge music.
for fans of STEREOLAB and/or HAWKWIND. apparently.
doubledotdash!? house band, and reading's number spazz rock duo.
think CHUCKLE BROTHERS, rather than LIGHTNING BOLT.
short sharp exciting post-punk from these three young face painted london ladies.
featuring members of THE MADRIGALS, RAY RUMOURS, and ELECTRELANE.
album out now on UPSET THE RHYTHM.
VOICE OF THE SEVEN THUNDERS
"a psychedelic firestorm" - THE WIRE.
